flyovers

Bridges crossing highways

Flyovers are the parts of a country passed over during air travel between major destinations—typically rural or less populated regions.

In American usage, flyover country often carries dismissive connotations, suggesting places coastal elites ignore: Politicians only visit flyover states during election years.

In British English, a flyover is an overpass—a bridge carrying one road over another.
