underpasses

Bridges you traverse

Underpasses are tunnels or passages that run beneath a road, railway, or other obstacle.

A pedestrian underpass allows foot traffic to cross under a busy highway; a railroad underpass lets cars pass beneath the tracks.

The term contrasts with overpass, which crosses above.

The underpass flooded during the storm.
