coastal states
Beach-bordering political regions
Coastal states are the states of a nation that border an ocean, sea, or major body of water.
In U.S. politics, the term often carries cultural connotations—suggesting liberal, urban, cosmopolitan values associated with the East and West Coasts, as opposed to the interior: Coastal states went blue in the election.
In international law, coastal states have jurisdiction over adjacent waters and resources.
