floatability

Capacity to float

Floatability is the capacity of something to float or remain buoyant.

The term appears most often in technical contexts—mining engineers measure the floatability of mineral particles to separate ore from waste, and marine designers consider the floatability of materials for life vests and boat hulls.

The floatability of the cork made it ideal for fishing bobbers.
