flip book

Manual animation pages

A flip book is a small book with a series of images that vary slightly from page to page, so that when you riffle through the pages rapidly with your thumb, the images appear to move like an animation.

Children often make flip books by drawing stick figures in the corners of notebook pages.

The format predates motion pictures and works on the same principle of persistence of vision.
