fireplug

Curbside water source

A fireplug is a hydrant—a pipe with a valve providing access to the water main for firefighting.

The term is more common in American English than British.

Informally, fireplug describes a short, stocky, solidly built person: He was a fireplug of a man, barely five-six but built like a barrel.
