fire sprinkler

Overhead flame suppressor

A fire sprinkler is a device mounted on ceilings or walls that automatically releases water when triggered by heat from a fire.

The sprinkler head contains a heat-sensitive element—typically a glass bulb or fusible link—that breaks at a specific temperature, allowing pressurized water to spray and suppress flames.

Despite what movies suggest, only sprinklers near the fire activate, not every sprinkler in the building.
