glass bulb
Lamp's transparent shell
A glass bulb is a rounded, hollow glass enclosure, most commonly the outer shell of an incandescent light bulb that contains the filament and inert gas.
The term applies to similar vessels in thermometers, where mercury or alcohol rises within the bulb, and in laboratory glassware.
The glass bulb shattered when the lamp fell.
