field guns
Mobile military weapons
Field guns are mobile artillery pieces designed for use in open terrain, typically mounted on wheeled carriages for transport across battlefields.
Historically distinguished from heavier siege guns or fixed fortifications, field guns could be repositioned during combat to support infantry movements: The battery of field guns opened fire on the advancing column.
The term now applies broadly to any medium-weight artillery meant for field operations.
