caissons
Wheeled ammunition carriers
Caissons are watertight chambers used in construction work underwater or below ground level—workers can excavate inside while water is kept out by air pressure.
The word also refers to ammunition wagons or chests, and to the horse-drawn carriages used in military funerals: The caissons go rolling along.
In architecture, caissons are the recessed panels in ceilings or domes.
