ferroconcrete

Metal-strengthened building material

Ferroconcrete is concrete reinforced with iron or steel bars, mesh, or rods embedded within it.

The metal provides tensile strength while the concrete resists compression, making the combination far stronger than either material alone.

Also called reinforced concrete.

The bridge was built of ferroconcrete in 1923.
