fellow travellers
Those alongside you
Fellow travellers are people who share a journey, literally or figuratively.
The term gained political weight in the mid-20th century to describe those who sympathize with a movement—especially communism—without formally joining it: He was never a party member, just a fellow traveller.
The implication is often that such sympathizers provide cover or legitimacy while maintaining plausible deniability.
Outside political contexts, it simply means companions on the same path: fellow travellers on the road to recovery.
