fanfictions

Unauthorized character stories

Fanfictions are stories written by fans using characters, settings, or worlds from existing media—novels, films, TV shows, video games.

The genre thrives online, ranging from short vignettes to novel-length works.

Writers explore alternative storylines, romantic pairings, or scenarios the original creators never addressed: She's been posting Harry Potter fanfictions since middle school.

Also spelled as two words or shortened to fanfic.
