original series
The starting series
Original series distinguishes the first iteration of a media franchise from later spinoffs, reboots, or sequels.
Most often applied to television: I prefer the original series to the remake.
The phrase is strongly associated with Star Trek, where "the original series" (TOS) specifically identifies the 1966–1969 show starring William Shatner, distinguishing it from numerous successor series.
