trade books
Books for everyone
Trade books are books published for general readers and sold through regular bookstores, as opposed to textbooks, academic publications, or specialized professional titles.
The term comes from "the book trade"—the commercial publishing industry.
A trade paperback is a quality paperback larger than a mass-market edition, typically the same dimensions as the hardcover: The novel came out in trade paperback a year after the hardcover release.
