emboss

Create raised lettering

To emboss is to raise a design or pattern from a surface, creating a three-dimensional effect you can see and feel.

Letters, logos, or decorative patterns are embossed on leather, paper, metal, or fabric: The invitation was embossed with gold lettering.

The opposite technique—pressing a design into a surface—is debossing.
