impressed

Moved by excellence

Impressed describes being affected by something in a way that creates a strong, usually positive response.

To be impressed is to feel admiration or respect: I was impressed by her composure under pressure.

The word can also carry skepticism: I'm not impressed signals that something fell short of expectations.

Originally from the physical sense of pressing into a surface—leaving a mark—impressed now refers almost exclusively to mental or emotional impact.
