emancipators

Those who liberate

Emancipators are people who free others from bondage, oppression, or restrictive conditions.

The term most often appears in historical contexts discussing those who worked to end slavery, with Abraham Lincoln frequently called "the Great Emancipator." Beyond literal freedom from enslavement, emancipators may liberate others from social constraints, outdated traditions, or oppressive systems.

The civil rights leaders were emancipators in their own right, continuing the work of earlier generations.
