A cardioid is a heart-shaped curve traced by a point on a circle rolling around another circle of equal size.
The shape appears in mathematics, physics, and engineering—particularly in describing the pickup pattern of certain microphones, where sound is captured most strongly from the front and rejected from the rear: a cardioid mic for podcasting.
