electrum

Ancient coin metal

Electrum is a naturally occurring alloy of gold and silver, pale yellow to whitish in color.

Ancient civilizations prized it for jewelry and coinage—the first metal coins were struck from electrum in Lydia around the 7th century BCE.

The term now also applies to any gold-silver alloy, whether natural or manufactured.
