drachma
Pre-euro Greek money
A drachma is an ancient Greek unit of currency, and later the modern Greek monetary unit until replaced by the euro in 2002.
The word sometimes appears in historical or biblical contexts: Thirty drachmas would have been a modest sum.
In ancient times, a drachma was also a unit of weight, roughly the mass of the silver coin.
