easting
Toward the sunrise
Easting is the distance traveled or measured eastward, particularly in navigation and surveying.
On a grid coordinate system, the easting gives the east-west position—how far east from a reference point.
The GPS showed an easting of 450,000 meters.
The term pairs with northing, which measures the north-south component.
