denatured
Made unfit purposely
Denatured means altered from a natural state, usually to make something unfit for its original purpose.
Denatured alcohol has additives making it undrinkable and thus exempt from liquor taxes.
In biochemistry, denatured proteins have lost their structure through heat or chemicals—egg whites denature when cooked.
The word sometimes describes anything stripped of essential qualities: a denatured version of the original proposal.
