doomsaying

Forecasting inevitable disaster

Doomsaying is predicting disaster or catastrophe, often with an implication that the predictions are exaggerated or unwelcome.

A doomsayer warns of collapse, ruin, or apocalypse—economic, environmental, or otherwise: Despite the doomsaying, the company survived.

The term usually carries skepticism toward the prediction rather than the predictor's sincerity.
