dog-paddle
Primitive swimming technique
Dog-paddle is a basic swimming stroke where arms paddle beneath the surface while legs kick—mimicking how a dog swims.
It keeps the head above water but moves slowly.
As a verb, to dog-paddle is to swim this way: She dog-paddled across the shallow end.
Also spelled dogpaddle or dog paddle.
