butterfly stroke

Arms sweep together

The butterfly stroke is a swimming style in which both arms sweep forward simultaneously over the water while the legs kick together in a dolphin-like motion.

It's one of the four competitive strokes, known for being physically demanding: She won the 100-meter butterfly.

Often shortened to butterfly or just fly: He swims the fly.
