Ink-dipping writing instrument
A dip pen is a writing instrument with a metal nib that must be repeatedly dipped in ink.
Unlike fountain pens, which have internal reservoirs, dip pens hold only enough ink for a few words or lines before requiring another dip.
They remain popular for calligraphy and illustration because different nibs produce varied line weights: She practiced copperplate script with a dip pen.
