ink well
Dip pen's partner
An inkwell is a small container designed to hold ink, typically set into a desk or placed on a writing surface.
Before fountain pens and ballpoints, writers dipped their quill or steel-nib pens into inkwells to load ink.
The term evokes old-fashioned classrooms and writing desks: Each student's desk had its own inkwell.
Usually written as one word: inkwell.
