Legal holding order
A detainer is a legal hold keeping someone in custody.
When a person is arrested, authorities in another jurisdiction may file a detainer to ensure the person isn't released before they can face charges elsewhere: Immigration placed a detainer on him after the arrest.
The term also refers to the wrongful withholding of property or the document authorizing continued detention.
