Custody extension orders
Detainers are legal orders requiring a person to be held in custody beyond their scheduled release.
Most commonly, immigration detainers request that jails hold inmates so federal agents can take them into custody for deportation proceedings: The sheriff's office honors ICE detainers.
Detainers can also hold someone for charges in another jurisdiction.
The term also simply means people who detain others.
