underflow

Below zero wraparound

Underflow is a computing term for when a calculation produces a number too small for the system to represent—essentially rounding to zero when the result should be a tiny positive or negative value.

The opposite of overflow, which occurs when numbers exceed the maximum.

Underflow can cause subtle bugs: The simulation failed because underflow made the denominator zero.
