segfault
Forbidden address access
A segfault (segmentation fault) is a computing error that occurs when a program tries to access memory it shouldn't—reading from or writing to an address that's off-limits.
The operating system terminates the offending program to prevent damage.
Segfaults plague programmers working in languages like C that allow direct memory manipulation: I spent three hours tracking down that segfault.
The term often appears as a verb: My code segfaulted again.
