cross product
Perpendicular vector operation
Cross product is a mathematical operation on two vectors that produces a third vector perpendicular to both.
Unlike the dot product, which yields a scalar, the cross product yields a vector whose magnitude relates to the area of the parallelogram the original vectors span.
The operation only works in three dimensions and is not commutative—reversing the order reverses the direction.
Cross products appear throughout physics and engineering: The torque is the cross product of the position and force vectors.
