dot product

Scalar from vectors

The dot product is a mathematical operation that multiplies two vectors to produce a single number (a scalar).

It's calculated by multiplying corresponding components and summing the results: for vectors (a, b) and (c, d), the dot product is ac + bd.

The dot product measures how much two vectors point in the same direction—it's positive when they align, zero when perpendicular, negative when opposing.

Central to physics, computer graphics, and machine learning: Calculate the dot product to find the angle between vectors.
