distributive

Dividing among many

Distributive describes something that distributes or relates to distribution.

In grammar, distributive words like *each*, *every*, and *either* refer to members of a group individually rather than collectively: Each student received a certificate.

In math, the distributive property allows multiplication across addition: 3 × (4 + 5) = (3 × 4) + (3 × 5).

More broadly, distributive concerns how things are allocated: distributive justice addresses fair distribution of resources in society.
