cross-tabulation

Grid showing intersections

Cross-tabulation is a statistical method for analyzing the relationship between two or more variables by displaying their joint frequency distribution in a table format.

The rows represent categories of one variable, columns represent another, and cells show counts or percentages where categories intersect.

Researchers use cross-tabulation to reveal patterns: Cross-tabulation showed that younger voters favored the candidate by a wide margin.

Often shortened to cross-tab.
