countertop
Flat cooking surface
A countertop is the flat working surface in a kitchen or bathroom, typically mounted on cabinets at a convenient height for standing work.
Kitchen countertops are where food preparation happens; bathroom countertops usually surround sinks.
The term also functions as an adjective describing appliances designed to sit on this surface rather than stand alone: countertop microwave, countertop dishwasher.
Materials range from laminate to granite to butcher block.
