countering
Acting against something
Countering is the act of responding to an attack, argument, or move with an opposing one.
You counter a punch by blocking and striking back, counter an argument by offering evidence against it, counter a threat by taking defensive measures: The company is countering the lawsuit with claims of its own.
The word implies active opposition rather than passive resistance.
