copyists
Those who transcribe
A copyist is someone who makes copies of documents, manuscripts, or artworks, particularly by hand.
Before the advent of printing and photocopying, copyists were essential for reproducing and preserving texts in monasteries, libraries, and courts.
In music, a copyist prepares individual instrumental parts from a composer's score.
The term can carry a faintly dismissive connotation when applied to artists who merely reproduce others' work rather than creating original pieces.
