conversion therapy
Pseudoscientific identity alteration
Conversion therapy refers to discredited practices aimed at changing a person's sexual orientation or gender identity, typically attempting to make gay, lesbian, or bisexual people heterosexual, or to align transgender people with their birth-assigned sex.
The methods range from talk therapy to aversion techniques.
Major medical and psychological organizations condemn it as harmful and ineffective: He suffered lasting trauma from conversion therapy as a teenager.
Also called reparative therapy.
