comic opera
Humorous staged musical
Comic opera is a form of opera featuring humorous plots, lighter musical styles, and typically happy endings, in contrast to serious or tragic opera.
The genre includes spoken dialogue between musical numbers and often satirizes social conventions or human foibles.
Gilbert and Sullivan's works are classic examples: The Pirates of Penzance is beloved comic opera.
