Johann Strauss
Viennese waltz master
Johann Strauss refers to two Austrian composers, father and son, who dominated 19th-century Viennese dance music.
The elder (1804–1849) established the Strauss orchestra and popularized the waltz.
The younger (1825–1899), called "the Waltz King," composed The Blue Danube and operettas like Die Fledermaus.
Without qualification, Johann Strauss usually means the son.
