intermezzo

Between-movements musical piece

An intermezzo is a short musical composition between larger sections of an opera, symphony, or other extended work—a brief instrumental piece while the stage is reset or the audience catches its breath.

The term extends to any short connecting entertainment or, more loosely, to any interlude: The weekend was a pleasant intermezzo between grueling work weeks.
