cold read
Script seen first-time
A cold read is a performance of a script without prior rehearsal or preparation: The actors did a cold read of the new screenplay.
In acting auditions, performers may be handed sides and asked to cold read on the spot.
Separately, cold reading is a technique used by psychics and mentalists to make accurate-seeming statements about strangers through observation and educated guessing rather than genuine insight.
