bitstream

Continuous digital transmission

A bitstream is a continuous sequence of binary digits (bits) transmitted or stored as a unit.

In computing and telecommunications, data flows as bitstreams between devices, through networks, or into storage.

In audio, a bitstream carries digital sound data: The receiver can decode the Dolby bitstream.

Configuration files for programmable chips are also called bitstreams.
