hatpin
Millinery securing spike
A hatpin is a long, sharp pin used to secure a hat to the wearer's hair.
Popular in the late 19th and early 20th centuries when elaborate hats required anchoring, hatpins often featured decorative heads of glass, metal, or gemstones.
They were occasionally used as weapons for self-defense.
