choroid

Retina's blood supply

The choroid is the vascular layer of the eye between the retina and the sclera, rich in blood vessels that nourish the outer layers of the retina.

It appears as a dark membrane due to pigment that absorbs excess light, preventing internal reflections.

Also called the choroid coat.

As an adjective, choroid describes membrane-like structures resembling this layer.
