cheek pouches

Rodent food pockets

Cheek pouches are expandable pockets inside the mouths of certain animals, used for temporarily storing food.

Hamsters, chipmunks, and some monkeys stuff their cheek pouches with seeds or nuts to transport back to a cache or eat later: The hamster's cheek pouches bulged with sunflower seeds.

The pouches can stretch remarkably, sometimes holding more than the animal's head would suggest possible.
