colobus

Thumbless tree-dweller

Colobus monkeys are large African primates distinguished by their striking black and white coloring and their lack of thumbs—the name comes from a Greek word meaning mutilated or maimed.

They live in troops in forest canopies, feeding primarily on leaves.

The several species of colobus are known for their long, silky fur and their ability to make spectacular leaps between trees.
