centrifugal force

Spin's outward push

Centrifugal force is the apparent outward force felt by an object moving in a curved path—the sensation pushing you against the car door when rounding a sharp turn.

Physicists call it a "fictitious force" because it arises from the rotating reference frame rather than any physical push.

The term applies broadly to anything flung outward by rotation: The centrifugal force of the spin cycle extracts water from clothes.
